Say Hello to Girlfriend Collective. They’re a clothing brand who care about ethics and their environmental impact. It’s something that has always been important to them. Being transparent to their customers was one of the first goals they set themselves. And, they’ve stuck to their word. The trendy fashion that they create has a deeper meaning. Each garment has its own story of how it got to where it is today. But, why?
It’s because Girlfriend Collective a sustainable fashion label. They use a range of raw materials that are less damaging to the environment. An example is that they are big fans of using recycled polyester (a type of plastic often used in garment-making). They source post-consumer water bottles in Taiwan where they value the act of recycling so it’s a win-win.
In fact, in Taiwan, each night people gather to sort out their waste as a community. This includes many things from recyclables, food waste and garbage. But they don’t just leave it separated lying around, they actually wait until the trucks come and pick it all up. It’s clear to see that Girlfriend Collective have done lots of research and they are passionate about their morals.
Now, let’s take a look at their fashion
You would think that if clothes are being made from recycled plastic bottles, surely they can’t look that good. But, you would be mistaken. Lots of their designs are actually super trendy and innovative too.
A First Look: Girlfriend Collective Collection
They’re currently growing on Instagram and getting noticed for the athleisure (athletic and leisure) wear they are creating right now. There is something rather simplistic about the designs but the way that they have been styled on the models is super sophisticated.
With our fashion, we tend to wear contrasting colours or patterns e.g. blue jeans and a white top. But why not wear triple of the same colour? It’s like what Kim K did with wearing layers of nude. Perhaps doing that with colour could be a new trend for the summer. You never know what has the potential to look amazing if you don’t experiment.
