Summary

The 90s trend is big this season, and is set to be even bigger for Spring/Summer 18 – so be prepared for all your childhood favorites to become style icons over the next few months. The trend is all about having fun with your outfits, being playful, different and daring. The power suit is part of this trend – emphasized shoulders, sucked-in waist and endless legs are just a few reasons why we love it! Meaning business, without necessarily looking formal, may seem tricky, but don’t let any new trend over-face you!

We first saw the power suit make its comeback at Fashion Week. Victoria Beckham, Ralph Lauren and Stella McCartney made the power suit the star of their shows, with all sorts of different looks to get us inspired. Catwalk looks aren’t necessarily practical, admittedly, so we shall show you 3 ways to style up a power suit!

Be Bold

If you want something that pretty much makes you feel like a female boss then something loud and proud is going to be right down your street. Vibrant colors will make you feel nothing less than a #Girlboss and you will be wanting to take Instagram style pictures in these gorgeous bright suits. Though they are bright, don’t let the deceive you – they are so easy to dress up or dress down. For the festive period, you can dress them up with strappy heels and a cute lace body, or for every day, sports-luxe them up with sneakers and a slogan tee.

Yet again, Nasty Gal have you covered with a gorgeous two piece in a wine shade. In corduroy, this has all the 70s feels. Why not wear it for NYE with a strappy satin cami to mix up those textures?

If you have bold fashion sense and you are all about that metallic trend, throw two styles into one with this jaw-dropping metallic suit from Topshop. If you want garish luxury-like pieces, they are definitely the place to go to! Inspired by the catwalks, you are going to find something outstanding. We recommend going for a glam rock vibe and throw subtle hints of leopard print and black studded boots!

Rock It Up

If you want a rock/grunge vibe to your suit, a Prince of Wales check or a hounds tooth design are so easy to work with. Just vamp up your accessories! These work so well with a slogan tee or dressed up with a roll neck sweater in those colder months. Opt for cropped pants to show off just the right amount of ankle and add a bit of sex appeal.

If you feel ready to invest in this kind of suit, we recommend checking out maje’s new Spring/Summer 2018 collection, they have brought back the Prince of Wales check for another season and with mustard and wine threads, it makes it a perfect option for all year round. You have the jacket and matching pants that can be thrown together for a powerful outfit, or dressed down separately.

If you are looking for a more affordable alternative, there are so many Prince of Wales check and hounds tooth suits to get your paws on! Check out J.O.A at Asos for a stunning, laid-back power suit for you ladies to try out!

Velvet Desire

You may have seen influencers such as I Covet Thee/Alix and Patricia Bright rocking the girliest pink velvet suit from Topshop of late! Well, needless to say, it’s bang on trend! Though theirs are out of stock (sigh), you can find so many similar styles. Again, velvet gives a vintage feel, so all you have to do is modernize it, like Alix did with a band tee, or vamp it up with a sexy lace top!

Have you had a look at Alexa Chung’s line yet? If you haven’t, you must look now! She has an amazing floral suit (jacket + pants) made in super soft black velvet. We love how the model has been styled with a simple pair of Converse and pyjama style top to let the suit be the star of the show. This is so perfect for everyday – we definitely have our eye on this for Spring 18!

Be sure to show us your power suits ladies on social media, we would love to get some style inspiration from you all! Who knows? You may even be in a future article?
