What red item are you going to get for this winter?

Criteria 3

Red has made a huge comeback this season thanks to designers like Max Mara and Marchesa (pictured) getting in on the act. Once an overlooked colour has now become a huge part of our wardrobes and our fashion landscape.

So how come it has blown up all of a sudden? Well, with the return of retro trends and 70s and 80s inspired pieces, vibrant colours such as red have also reappeared on the catwalks, then in the shops. It is a stand-out colour that is so fun yet chic and can go with pretty much anything you have in your wardrobe – from navy blue to pastel shades like pale pink, you can pretty much throw a red piece with anything.

Not only that, but red also totally elevates an outfit – basic tee and jeans? Throw on a red wrap-round coat! Don’t know what dress to wear for your next event? Red will be the answer to all your prayers!

Styling bright red can be tricky in some ways, as it is such a loud and proud colour, but as I mentioned, it’s just so versatile! Let’s look at some ways you can style red!

Red and Leopard Print

Two of the loudest styles thrown together may sound like a little too much, but broken down with a simple pair of black skinny jeans, or finished with a black jacket and accessories, it can work. It has a novelty kind of feel to it, and screams the 70s! We love Megan Ellaby’s look as it is so her – she looks like a real-life rock star! So edgy and fabulous!

Another way you can also wear this dream combo together is with a statement bag. If you don’t feel quite ready to wear leopard print as an item of clothing, Sammi Maria has got you covered! She has chosen this gorgeous leopard print bag from Maje to wear alongside her & Other Stories jumper – perfect for those colder months!

Red Outerwear

What I also recommend is investing in a red statement piece – outerwear is timeless and versatile, and let’s face it, an all-black outfit with a statement coat always looks so chic! Agnesska Fashion has got it down to a tee with this beautiful red puffer jacket. It’s the perfect way to mix sports-luxe and the latest red trend in one. Though her original jacket from Bershka is from 2016, we have found something by the brand Glamorous, available on Asos and Bloomingdales! It has got everything we loved from Agnesska’s look – the cropped fit looks great with high waisted jeans!

We love Laura Blair for her jaw-dropping high street looks! This time, she has gone for a more dressed up outfit, with a Chanel-inspired tweed coat from Zara! Teaming it with black just makes it so much more sophisticated. The gold buttons are such a perfect finish, and make the coat look so much pricier than it is!

Red Partywear

With the festive season underway, it’s the perfect excuse to wear red. Even if you are quite happy with your monochrome, you just have to go for a red dress or jumpsuit for your office Christmas party, or on the big day itself! Victoria or In The Frow has opted for a red lace mini dress with pompom detailing for a cute, girly look, that she has made feminine and grown up with her hair slicked into a ponytail and a deep wine coloured Mulberry bag. This would look amazing with bare legs or black tights for a Christmas party, finished off with some black suede heels.

Or why not go for something similar to Tanya Burr’s outfit of dreams for the opening of the new Louis Vuitton flagship store in Paris? Dressed in Louis Vuitton (obviously), the cape-like feel to the dress makes it even more elegant and the patent lace-up boots give it that rockier edge. If Louis Vuitton isn’t quite in your budget, Alice + Olivia have a similar style which has gone down to £78 on The Outnet!

Red Shoes

Last but not least, red shoes. One of the easiest ways to incorporate red into your wardrobe. Red boots instantly elevate your outfit and make it look so 2017! But don’t worry, even with 2018 looming, it will still be on trend for spring/summer 18! Red sock boots are a popular choice, and red buckled boots are also a cute alternative for the girl who loves to opt for a grungier vibe.

Lily Melrose always dares to try new things, and she never fails to surprise us. One thing that particularly caught my attention was her red ankle boots, which totally transform the outfit and make it feminine and give it a sexier vibe. It’s amazing what showing just a bit of ankle can do!

We also love Sammi Maria’s boots, but no change there – she always gives serious wardrobe envy! With a straight-legged jeans and a slogan tee, it’s just such an effortless look which is so badass and cool. The light blue wash denim compliments the red patent boots perfectly, don’t you think?

So now we have got you curious about red, why not try it out for yourself? If you haven’t already, that is! Be sure to tag us on Instagram and show us your favourite red looks!
