Summary

Toni Garrn is exactly like us. As long as you don’t gaze at her wonderfully long legs or sensual figure which allows her to catwalk at a Victoria’s Secret show. Or the small fact that she once dated Leonardo DiCaprio.

Like us, she bosses it in the gym. Takes toilet selfies. Makes her own bowl of healthy goodness filled with bananas, almonds and chia seeds. And don’t forget the occasional vegan pancakes and French toast for breakfast.

But in other ways, she achieved feats we haven’t. Earlier this year, she stunned at the Academy Awards ceremony red carpet with a pair of cream coloured floor-length gown that was paired with a peplum hem back. This caressed the floor through a lace illusion.

But this is not her first edgy experiment in fashion. Previously, at the Dior Poison Girl Eau de Toilette International Launch, she sported a sheer top with bare chest. This was put together with smart-looking black velvet blazer and matching high-waist trousers.

Apart from being a notable force in the fashion industry, she is also an activist. She can be seen fighting against gender discrimination by taking the role as an international ambassador for the “Because I am a Girl”, movement. This aimed to promote female rights and bring girls out of poverty.

But her efforts for gender discrimination did not stop there. In 2014, she partnered with German denim brand ‘Closed’ and designed her own line of jeans. This was so that all sales proceeds would fund a charity that focused on the education of young girls in Africa.

Her role as a ‘Closed’ designer continued. When does this powerful woman breathe we wonder? In the year 2016, she teamed up with her brother Niklas Garrn and churned out a 12-piece unisex collection known as  ‘EQL’ to celebrate equality.

But before all of this, we can see that her influence started at a very young age. She has been the face of Calvin Klein since the age of 15. Through this, she has been covers of different style magazines ranging from Vogue, Elle, Marie-Claire, Another, and Harper’s Bazaar. Following this, she ranked 11th in the year 2009 and 20th in the year 2012 for the Top 50 Models Women list.

She also starred in Victoria’s Secret’s special campaign “Dream Angel” together with Erin Heatherton and Lindsay Ellingson and appeared in the brand’s “Angles in love” commercial. While all of her achievements are spectacular, we noticed that she has made good use of her existing connections to work on causes that matter to her. This is an important point that we can all learn from. Work hard in one area so that you can reap the benefits in another.

But, if you take away all these titles and achievements, you will see that she is simply a queen of minimalism. While she might need to wear heavy makeup with an elaborate hairdo at work, she would rather not have any of those on when she is off the runway.

Equally unbelievable is that she never had her hair coloured or highlighted. She likes the way her hair has been and prefers to keep it just as it is. Hence, we’re not surprised to see her without makeup selfies. Go you natural beauty!

There is a quirky side to her too. Most celebrities will want to maintain a certain level of prim and proper, regardless of whether they are online or offline. Toni would rather showcase the funnier bit of herself by lazing around in front of the television during Christmas, hiding under a giant blanket or mimicking the stunned look of a cute baby.

She is also not afraid to be herself. We feel that this changes the way most of us would perceive a super model. But this must be a challenge for her. A certain level of perseverance is required to continue with what she loves to do while pursuing a busy career in this fabulous world under the limelight at the same time.

However, her focus has not always been work. This was seen in February 2010 when she skipped the entire fashion week so that she could focus on her ‘Abitur’; the university preparatory school leaving qualification in Germany.

One may wonder if all young girls can succumb to the challenges brought about by fame and wealth. In the case of Toni Garrn, we can see that she has well and truly kicked these challenges to the curb.
